For the past five years, I have been working with a variety of clients on exciting projects to help further their education or social service efforts. The majority of these were projects with discrete funding. The following are brief descriptions of the work I did for each organization:

  • The Rhode Island Department of Education

  • RIDE brought me on to conduct research on and develop a website about their Wallace Foundation-funded Highly Qualified Leaders
    Project
. After working with each of the school districts and organizations that had developed programs and/or protocols on educational leadership, I created a searchable website that will allow others throughout the state and across the country to learn from their experiences and undertake similar projects. RIDE brought me on a bit later to conduct charettes and develop the navigational structure as well as the homepage layout of their new website.

  • The Big Picture Company

  • While Co-Director Dennis Littky's assistant at The Big Picture Company, I took the lead on a complete redesign of the non-profit education organization's website. Prior to this, there had been no archive of publications, no online conference registration, no nationwide job listings, no podcasts, nor many of the other components of this dynamic website. Since leaving The Big Picture in 2004, I have continued to serve as the webmaster. My responsibilities vary and include: updating content; answering webmaster emails; posting job openings; and archiving publications by and about the organization.

  • The Rhode Island Foundation

  • I was contracted by the Foundation to conduct interviews and field studies of teachers and students in three Coventry, RI public schools on the impact of programs funded by the RI Foundation and the Gates Foundation.  The programs included literacy coaching and an alternative high school. My write-ups on their successes were submitted to the Gates Foundation with the official grant reports.

  • The Education Alliance at Brown University

  • During the development of their new website, I worked with one of the Alliance's lead researchers and wrote the content for the "Areas of Expertise" pages.

  • Rhode Island Child Opportunity Zone Network

  • The group of ten Child Opportunity Zones (COZs) hired me to help in developing and solidifying their image as a statewide network.  I facilitated a branding workshop, developed print materials for use with legislators and community partners, and researched grant opportunities for programs that range from adult education to afterschool enrichment to parenting classes. Also developed the content for their pages on the RI Department of Education website.

  • Technology Applications Association

  • Assisted renowned education consultant and writer Charles Mojkowski with a Rhode Island Department of Education funded report including reform recommendations on the state's career and technical education schools and programs.

  • Palo Alto Press and FIRST Robotics

  • Wrote and developmentally edited the FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) organization’s coffeetable book celebrating its 15th anniversary supporting national and international robotics programs for children and youth entitled FIRST: Chronicles of Inspiration, Competition and Changing the World. The book was published by Palo Alto Press.

  • Ideas Consulting, Inc.

  • Helped develop the company's website and marketing campaign for their online student portfolio tools

  • The University of Rio Grande (Rio Grande, OH)

  • Presented workshops to several graduate level teacher education classes based on my and Dennis Littky's book, The Big Picture: Education is Everyone's Business (ASCD, 2004).

  • Life Centered Learning (OH)

  • Conducted an online course for graduate level teacher education students based on my and Dennis Littky's book, The Big Picture: Education is Everyone's Business (ASCD, 2004).

  • National Neighborhood Day

  • Assisted the organization during its first official year to publicize its small grant opportunities, film competition and the events of National Neighborhood Day.

  • Padma Venkatraman, Author

  • Developed website for Padma's young adult novel, Climbing the Stairs (Penguin, 2008).

  • R.C. Owen Publishers

  • Reviewed manuscripts of education books prior to selection for publication.
